This is my first blog post... hooray! It's a little random that my first post is focused on a fictional man, but I think that if one man deserved to be my first post, it would be Mr. Darcy.
The first time I read Pride and Prejudice, I was in 10th grade. I had seen several movie adaptations of the beloved novel, but (as usual) the book is so much greater than the movie. Just like every other woman who has ever read or watched Pride and Prejudice, I've got a thing for Fitzwilliam Darcy. Few men deserve the adjective "dashing," but I find Mr. Darcy to epitomize the word. And in addition to that, I have recently come to understand the infatuation with the dear Colin Firth as Darcy. Mmm. :) Yes he's pretty old now, but he sure was the bee's knees back in the day.
Anywho, here's the question of the day: which Mr. Darcy is superior?
The aforementioned Colin Firth in Pride and Prejudice (1995)
Matthew Macfadyen in Pride & Prejudice (2005)
James McAvoy in Becoming Jane (2007)*
Elliot Cowan in "Lost in Austen" (2008)
Colin Firth does a lovely job and is in fact considered the "classic" Mr. Darcy. I'd have to agree. However, I thoroughly enjoyed Matthew Macfadyen's protrayal. I think he really captured the essence of Mr. Darcy. I love how you can catch little hints of his infatuation with Elizabeth throughout the movie. Elliot Cowan's portrayal was a little more laughable.... but he did a good job? He mostly just scowled a lot and jerked his head around a bit. James McAvoy was perfect in this role. He kind of makes my heart melt a little. I'm torn.
Please reply with your feedback :)
*James McAvoy actually plays Tom Lefroy, not Mr. Darcy. But in my defense, he does play a Darcy-like character. There is in fact some evidence that suggests Jane Austen wrote many of her male leads based off this man.

I'd have to say that James McAvoy is my favorite! Love the new blog!
I'm so happy to see your blog, Nat! I'll have to watch Colin Firth's version to make an informed decision. Mom
congrats to the new blogger...will be reading...
I actually haven't seen many of those versions... lame, I know. But James McAvoy is pretty well.. ;) sweet. And you forgot one-- don't forget the cheesy Utah version. I kinda like that Mr. Darcy too! Miss you!
So I love your blog. I'm even giving you your own link on mine. :) I haven't seen the Colin Firth version, but I have seen him in The Secret Garden and I kind of heart him. I think Matthew Macfadyen is pretty hot, and that's the one I've seen so I guess I'll go with him. Plus I can't get over James McAvoy being a fawn.
Yes! I found your blog on Nin's. I think I am partial to Matthew Macfadyen, though Janes McAvoy is a close second.
So this is weird coming from me, but I'm definitely gonna have to give Matthew Macfadyen first place. He is ridiculously attractive. And I'm not just talking about how good-looking he is. They make him a well-rounded character and I like that. Colin Firth would be second, Elliot Cowan....well, they could've done better, but he was fun for the movie. James McAvoy I'm not going to count, haha.
